The most recent electronic game release from the Clue franchise is Clue: Murder at Boddy Mansion (the international version is called Cluedo: Murder at Blackwell Grange). The game is compatible with Microsoft Windows and was developed in 11998 by Hasbro and EAI. The rights to the game are now owned by Atari who bought out Hasbro Interactive in 2000. The game was once distributed free in boxes of cereal.
The game is an electronic replica of the board game in video game form. The setting is the same mansion and the goal of the game is still to figure out the details of the murder. Although players can play by the original rules, they can also move by using points. At the beginning of a turn a player is given nine points and each step they make costs them a certain number of points. Players can only move as many times they have points. Moving one square costs one point, making a suggestion costs 3 points, etc This mode is preferred by som players because it balances out the number of moves each player gets.
This is the first clue game to provide detailed images of all the characters in the game. It is in sharp 3D graphics and players have a top down view of the action. There are also video clips throughout which show the murder committing the killing. The game is equipped for online play on the internet as well. The original URL that players went on to play online is no longer in service, but enthusiasts of the game (cluebies) have created 2 web portals or ladders for joining the game on line. They are called Crime Scene Investigators and Invitation to Murder and they are powered by Case’s MyLeague Ladder. This game has had a very long lifespan of popularity for a videogame and has been continuously for sale for over 10 years. It is now sold as part of a combo pack of games or as a discount edition.
